Ron O’Connor was a staple of the Southern California PGA for more than 50 years. He was elected to PGA membership in 1969 and employed at various courses throughout Southern California as an Assistant Golf Professional and Golf Shop Manager. He led the Section Office in 1979 and first undertook the position of Executive Director for nine years, and then transitioned into Tournament Director until his retirement in 2001. He was awarded the President’s Award in 1981, the Bill Strausbaugh Award in 1984 and 1987, the Horton Smith Award in 1983 and 1996 and was named an Honorary Life Member in 1991.
